Understanding the VergeOS Architecture
Digital Learning Guide
Why is VergeOS an Ultraconverged Infrastructure (UCI), instead of just a "better" Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI)? It is all about architecture. VergeOS is designed as a data center operating system (DCOS) from scratch. It integrates virtualization, storage, and networking into a cohesive software solution that enables IT to consolidate workloads, simplify IT and reduce costs by as much as 70%.
This Digital Learning Guide will take you through the VergeOS architecture in bite-size chunks, delivered via email every two weeks.

Chapter Summary
Chapter 1 - Quick Look at the VergeOS Architecture
In chapter one, we will briefly overview the VergeOS architecture. We will cover some of the basic constructs of VergeOS, like nodes, clusters, storage, networking functions, virtual machines, The Global Resource Pool (GRP), and Virtual Data Centers (VDC).
Chapter 2 - How Does VergeOS Handle Nodes and Clusters Differently?
VergeOS, unlike legacy HCI solutions, handles nodes and clusters differently. It can support nodes of different types and as many clusters as needed. Still, the resources of those clusters are universally available to workloads running within the infrastructure, thanks to our Global Resource Pool. In Chapter 2, we will dive a bit deeper into each of these components.
Chapter 3 - The Power of VergeOS' Virtual Data Centers
VergeOS does more than create virtual machines (VM). It creates Virtual Data Centers (VDC). In the same way, a virtual machine encapsulates a server; a VDC encapsulates all of the elements within a data center to run a workload. It includes multiple VMs, all the networking and storage configurations, and user management settings. In Chapter 4, we will dive deeper into VDCs so you can get a taste of how they can help you consolidate workloads, segment data center instances, or manage hundreds of different customers.
Chapter 4 - How Does VergeOS Run for Decades?
VergeOS also eliminates the need for infrastructure refreshes. The architecture lets you gradually evolve your data center, adopting the latest technology without costly storage migrations. You can support new workloads as quickly as the organization adopts them without impacting the performance of your currently installed applications.
